Hayavadana

Hayavadana, a play written by Girish Karnad was staged at RangaShankara yesterday. I had heard a lot about this play and was very keen on watching it. I had a faint idea about the plot but that certainly did not interfere with, the rich and grand portyal of the play enacted by Benaka. Nagabharana as 'Bhagavataru' was fantastic; this was the first time I witnessed his performance as a theatre artist. Benaka is one of the oldest theatre group in bangalore set up by Late B.V.Karanth. Havayadana has had 100 shows and this show was dedicated to Girish Karnad who turns 70 on May 19th. The story revolves around Devadutta, Kapila and Padmini. The emotional upheavels they face because of transposing of heads. Running parallel is the story of Hayavadana, a horseheaded man who is seeking fullfillment and completion. As far as what I understood I think the story has a larger theme of identity and the power of the mind over the body. Characters had a lot of complexity in it.
Humour was aplenty in the play. Right from bhagavatru to Goddess Kali's irritation of having been invoked during sleep, they made the audience laugh. The music in the play was excellent, especially, the lead female singers and her voice modulation must be greatly appreciated.
Also worth mentioning are the two children who played the role of dolls. Their innocence and attempt was simply beautiful. Their performance made me want to act in a play. Dialogue delivery and accent was done well and even the confusion after the headgear of one of the dolls rolled on the floor was funny and made an instant fan out of all of us watching the play.
Overall, the play entertained, enlightened and enchanted me beyond words. A must watch for art lovers.

Road Rage

While coming to work this morning I witnessed the aftermath of an accident. A Santro's bonnet was completely smashed and the culprit was none other than our most hated campanion on the road, the CAB. The vehicle was typically a TATA SUMO with a message on the back of the vehicle saying if you find this vehicle driving rashly blah blah... How many of us have actually called the number to complain. I certainly did that only to find the number not existing. Not only driving rashly, these vehicles are also guilty of air and noise pollution. Bangalore City Traffic Police (BCTP) never fails to grab the opportunity to nail violators of traffic. Most corners you will find TVS Scooty owners, TVS (50 is that what they call them still) showing the emmission certificates. I am sure you have noticed that these cabs, autos, tempos, trucks and BMTC buses never get caught for noise or air pollution. My friend has this status message on his gtalk id. "In a day, when you don't come across any problems - you can be sure that you are traveling in a wrong path." I guess we have stopped noticing what is wrong and have begun to accept them. So when everything is going wrong we are in a state of bliss. Coz ignorance and arrogance is bliss and we are experts at this. Aren't we?

Tiger Teams

Group dynamics is a very important part of performance and resource utilization. I believe companies can achieve high standards of quality by creating a dream team. I agree that no two people are alike and there are bound to be differences. As the saying goes, "Like pole repel," most of the times it has been observed that people who are too alike dont get along, whether professionally or personally. Also I feel that people with similar personalities are not always successful in complementing and encouraging the other. We are not looking at creating a team of robots who mime and parrot each other's thoughts. What we need is a team that can gel with each others' unique personality and take the team to newer heights. Qualities like tolerance, compassion, a understanding of team members are basic ingredients to this recipe of team dynamics. If garnished with intelligence, charisma and creativity, teams will certainly live up to its name of being "Tiger Teams."
